More Unpopular Opinions
Instant Lunch > Cup Noodles

They both require a splash of sesame oil to be edible.

I agree that the “styrofoam container with ??? in it” items need a lot of help for palatability. I haven’t had one of them in a long time, mostly because I realized I wasn’t tasting anything but salt. My tongue and my blood pressure both agreed that I should quit eating such things.

The Maruchan ramen packages that include noodles and a “flavor pack”, where you cook the noodles then mix in the flavor stuff are sort of different. The noodles themselves are pretty good. By themselves. The flavor packs are basically concentrated salt with some herbs and flavorish stuff.

I like the texture of the noodles, so I just flavor ‘em my way. I cook the noodles, then toss in a low-sodium bouillon cube for flavor. Still kinda salty, but not nearly as bad.

For this particular item, my ideal would be a cup with the noodles in it, and a packet of flavor stuff that you could add or not; maybe a little, maybe the whole thing…. But they do not ask me how to improve their products, so it’s their loss. ;)

The cup versions are ideal for the impatient. I don’t bother with boiling. Just hot tap water and oil.

Luckily, I have at least a dozen ramen shacks to choose from if I don’t mind waiting.

Shoyu > Tonkatsu

Another Japanese soup unpopular opinion: miso sucks.

I’ve often had access to a setup that produces hot water as a side gig to its coffee making duties. The typical Bunn 2-carafe machine (one on the bottom to brew, the second on top to stay warm) was a staple at my last military job, while my last hospital job made “coffee” by reconstituting a syrup-material-stuff with hot water. (It was hot and had caffeine so it did serve a purpose.)

Anyway, the already hot water part was excellent for cup-type ramen. Peel back the cover just enough, pour in the hot water, fold the cover back and retreat to the cubicle/cell.

My biggest issue with actually consuming cup-type products is that getting the noodles out is a big mess.

I”m not a big miso fan. the miso itself is kind of chewy sometimes, maybe because it’s not prepared right, or “other”.

I eat cup noodles like an animal. Drink the broth, and then grab some noodles with my teeth.

Oh, I definitely like it, and prefer the density, but shoyu beats it on taste.

For the type of shit one generally needs to do around the house, the best style of hammer to have is a tack hammer.

Agreed. Unless you’re building something, a standard claw hammer is overkill (or maybe “over hammer”?)

For some of my tinkering hobbies I also have a small brass hammer, perfect for tapping pin punches with, and a mallet with interchangeable faces (courtesy of Craftsman, long ago). But around the house stuff is almost always tack-sized, so a tack hammer is perfect.

Anyone ever considered boiling ramen noodles in milk instead of water?

Tack hammer? What are you hammering that you need a tack hammer instead of standard?

Like I said, things around the house. Picture hanging hardware for example. I’ve found most household hammering jobs call for precision, light taps.

The same way I’ve stood on the edge of a cliff and considered jumping off.
